Making a secret wish can be a joy and at the same time provides the positive energy to keep the hope alive. It is quite common with all of us to make secret wishes for things that would otherwise seem to be impossible – wishing for a promotion in office, getting good grades in examinations or winning the heart of the dream-girl. There can be thousands of such occasions when we make a wish secretly and could not share it even with the person closest to us. We make a wish and keep praying for it to become true. Sometimes our wishes do become realities and it is this fact that inspires us to wish for more.
Our wishes are mostly about our personal achievements – earning more money, rising to fame, better health, winning love of someone very special or for a happy relationship. But sometimes we also wish for others such are our parents or children, friends or even someone we have never met. These are the selfless wishes where we wish for others' happiness and achievements. Knowing that they are happy or have achieved what we had wished for them makes us happier too. This is perhaps the greatest motivation for wishing for others.
Many people take on philanthropic activities whereby they intend to bring some direct positive change in people's lives. Since these activities require resources, both financial and others, everyone cannot do philanthropies. However by wishing for someone for the fulfillment of his/her objectives can bring similar happiness to us. We can have the joy of making something better in someone's life just by making a small wish. Wishing for others doesn't cost anything. What is needed is just the willingness to make a difference in others' lives and help them feel better and happy. We wish for ourselves countless times a day. But if we wish for others just once then a big difference can be made in others' lives.

If we wish for more intangible things rather than wishing for tanglibles then the world would be a better place to live in. Our wishes for others will in a way contribute to the betterment of the entire mankind. When we wish for others often there is no self-interest attached to it. It is solely a selfless act and the only thing that matters is to see the other person happy and satisfied. By wishing for others we actually appreciate their endeavors and wish for the endeavors to be successful. If instead of wishing for more wealth and money, we wish for better relations among humans, for love and peace then our world will definitely get rid of a lot of problems. So lets start wishing for a better world!

Well is so nice to meet you and for your first hub you have my attention that is for sure...well written and it makes me want to tell you and other's there is a site adoptaussoldier.org , which I have done and have a soldier I write to and send things he needs, as well as other's, I always send extra stuff that they can share...So is a wish I know is helping our brave men and women overseas...

Wonderful stuff, Mike. I think you have some ability to inspire others. Unfortunately, a wish does not make an action, but I will not get too cynical here, because if more people in the world thought like you, then this place we call home would certainly be a better place. Don't forget the beings beyond human either. Every day some other species is closer to extinction. It's a beautiful world out there, truly it is, we need to keep it that way.
Too many people are only here for themselves, or their immediate family. If everyone just thought of those less fortunate than themselves once in a while, then we would see the difference. As you said, not everyone can afford to be a philanthropist, but if life has been kind to you and you are in a position where you have spare time or money, I would urge you to give. The greatest satisfaction is in knowing that as a person, you have helped someone to improve their life.
If you're treating yourself to some luxurious meal tonight, perhaps a new supercar that you don't really need, then please remember that somewhere someone is scavaging through a bin to find a morsel in order to stave of starvation for another day.

This is a really nice hub. Wishes are so special and unique for everyone. I agree if we all wished for positive things to come into other's lives we not only wish the best for them, but we are wishing the best for ourselves. I do believe in that old warning when it comes to intangible things, "be careful what you wish for because you just might get it". :-)
